Emily Boening
LPC, NCC (she/her)
Hi there! I’m Emily. I specialize in working with queer adults and folks with ADHD, as well as supporting partners in romantic relationships (i.e., “couples counseling”, but for diverse relationship structures, too).
Who I work with
For my solo clients, I primarily work with folks who are queer, have ADHD (or think you might), or a mix of both. I have loved supporting clients through life transitions (especially adjusting to college life or life after graduation), burnout, anxiety, and people-pleasing.
For partners, I work with clients who are hoping to improve communication and connection, considering changing their relationship structure, or adjusting to life transitions. Many of my clients are part of diverse relationship structures, and I welcome ENM/poly clients. However, due to space limitations, I can only accommodate up to 3 partners in my office.
we might be a match if…
You are looking for a therapist who is direct, open, feels like an actual human being, and actually believes you. I may be the right fit if you’re open to being pushed, need a flexible approach, and want to feel like you’re being heard.
I want my space to feel inviting and rooted in reality - this shouldn’t feel like the doctor’s office. I show up honestly (ripped jeans, RedBull, and f-bombs included), and I hope this gives you permission to do the same.
How i operate
In clinical terms, I use an eclectic approach with an intersectional feminist framework.
In plain words, I operate under the belief that not every struggle is a symptom of a disorder and not everything can be solved with a one-size-fits-all approach.
I like to collaborate with my clients on what works for them, which sometimes means being creative and pulling from multiple approaches, including humanistic, attachment-based, relational, strengths-based, and mindfulness-based therapies.
outside of work
When I’m off the clock, you might spot me around town with my wife (especially when there is food or music involved). I spend the majority of my free time with my cats, playing Fallout 4, visiting my loved ones, doing puzzles, or listening to audiobooks. I’m also a big fan of reality TV, and I’m usually counting down the days until the next season of Big Brother.
I am also a fierce advocate, and I love deep conversations around values, policy, and community. I am a firm believer in being a villager and showing up for others, even when it’s hard.
